J. CRESSWELL STUART ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
At “Team Stuart” we strongly believe in a team approach to raising student achievement. We use various forms of data to make instructional decisions and track progress. We also believe that a partnership between school and home is essential for student success. We track student progress in a variety of ways. Through the STAR Reading Program, we identify each child’s reading comprehension level and monitor growth four times per year. This data has assisted our teachers in lesson planning, differentiating instruction, and guiding students to select books that they can read and comprehend through the Accelerated Reader Program. We use various technology programs that assist us in our effort in raising student achievement such as Accelerated Math, Study Island, and Reading Eggs. We have a morning writing class before school starts that encourages the love of writing and helps are students in grades 2nd- 5th become stronger writers. We have a targeted group of students that attend our after school tutoring program that focuses on language arts and mathematics. The students enjoy Music, Art, Library, Computers, and Physical Education on a weekly basis. All students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities such as Chorus, Art Club, Talent Show, Student Book Club, and Sports Club that are all facilitated by teacher volunteers.
We encourage the teaming of family and the excitement of education to continue to stand out at J. Cresswell Stuart Elementary School. We plan events and activities that promote the participation of our parents and students to get actively involved in the learning process. At our school we focus on developing the "whole" child, socially/emotionally, cognitively, and physically. We look for the strengths that children come to us with and build upon them. We are always striving for excellence.
We have a “student-centered” approach to learning. All of our teachers incorporate activities that place the students at the center for decision-making, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning. Many staff members meet regularly as a professional book club that focuses on the most up to date research that supports student achievement. We incorporate activities aligned with the Common Core State Standards in cross-curricular learning centers on a regular basis. Instructional activities incorporate the use of higher-order thinking and reasoning skills, differentiated instruction, and technology in all academic subjects. Students receive academic learning in our Science and Computer Labs.
Our faculty is committed to making the J. Cresswell Stuart Elementary School an outstanding educational institution. Every student is encouraged to believe in themselves and take pride in their individual and group accomplishments. “Team Stuart” works diligently each day to follow through with our game plan to raise student achievement.
