The uniform dress code in the Willingboro High School is being implemented primarily as a way to improve the school learning environment. It is intended to provide an equal clothing status to all children and allow students to focus on the educational process rather than a fashion statement. Students will be required to dress in a manner that reflects good taste, modesty and appropriateness for an educational learning environment.

All students should recognize the need to dress appropriately for school. Clothing that appears to create an improper or disruptive influence on the educational environment will not be tolerated.

The following dress rules will be in effect:

1. No hats, head coverings or sweatbands are to be worn. (Religious exceptions)
2. No tank tops, halters, open-chest shirts or tops that resemble underwear or are transparent will be tolerated.
3. No  “T” shirts are to be worn.
4. No blouses, sweaters or shirts that are worn with a bare midriff will be permitted.
5. Shorts/Skirts/Dresses must be finger-tip length, measured with arms, hands, and fingertips extended on the side of the body.
6. No Biker shorts/pants (spandex material).
7. Pants must be worn with the waistbands at the waist. No drooping pants; trousers are to be properly worn at all times while in school.
8. Articles of clothing that may have indecent patches, pictures, slogans or writing may not be worn.
9. No tattered clothing or cut-offs.
10. No sandals or open-toed shoes will be permitted.
11. Rings which are designed for more than one finger are not to be worn on school property.
12. Heavy outerwear, overcoats/jackets are not to be worn in classes during a normal school day.
13. No denim.

Pants/skirts:

• Tan/khaki,  standard slacks for boys and girls
• Tan/khaki,  skirts/skorts and jumpers are acceptable for girls*
• Tan/khaki,  shorts may be worn in the warm weather*
• No denim

* Shorts, skirts, skorts and jumpers are to be fingertip length or longer per District Dress Rules.

Shirts/blouses:

• Solid color/ light blue, or black
• Golf-Type
• Regular/button down collar, shirts/blouses with or without collars are acceptable.
• Turtleneck; Long or short sleeves
• No denim
• No "T" Shirts

Sweaters/vests:

• Solid color/navy blue Crew or V-neck

Physical Education Classes:

• Solid color navy blue sweatpants
• Solid color navy blue sweat shirt or solid color navy blue "T" shirt
• Sneakers with socks

A committee that includes the building principals, staff and parents in the Willingboro High School has made the uniform dress code selection in accordance with Title 18A: 11-8.

The building administrators will make final determination if the students' attire meets the approved dress code policy. Students choosing not to wear the approved dress code attire will be disciplined per the District Discipline Policy. The building principal must approve any deviation from the dress code for specific, approved events.

Families in need of financial assistance for the purchase of school uniforms will be encouraged to contact the school. The building principal will determine the form and type of assistance that is appropriate. The building principal will work with staff, school and community organizations, and businesses to identify resources for assisting families in need. A list will be compiled of those willing to assist and made available to families in need.

Pursuant to Statutory Authority, the Board chooses not to exercise the option of a waiver to parents (18A: 11-8b).

An evaluation of the uniform school dress code will be reviewed annually with the building principal and the Board of Education.
