A FOCUS ON STUDENT ATTENDANCE

Student attendance is a critical factor in the success of our students. The research shows a direct correlation between student attendance and academic success in general. The more time on tasks that are students have, the greater their chances for future excellence. With caring Educators focused on the instruction of the students that are present, and follow-up on the students who are not...that attention can help students who could potentially become chronically absent.

Chronic Absenteeism

is defined as students missing 10% or more of the school year for any reason. This takes into account excused as well as unexcused days missed during the 180-day school year (SY).

The goal for the 2015-2016 SY is to reduce chronic absenteeism to less than 6%

The message from our Superintendent of Schools

"A major goal for our School District this year is to improve overall student attendance. According to the New Jersey Department of Education, a student is considered chronically absent when they miss 10% of the school year. There are only 180-days in a school year, if a student is enrolled for the entire year and absent 18 days they are chronically absent. In other words, if a student misses just 2-days per month, they are on the road to chronic absenteeism! There is no differentiation between excused and unexcused absences when determining if a student is chronically absent. We cannot stress enough how critically important it is that our students are in school every day."
