WILLINGBORO PUBLIC SCHOOLS' INTERNET SAFETY RESOURCES

WORKING WITH THE WEB

The Willingboro Public School District is committed to supporting 21st-century teaching and learning. Given the pace at which new Web 2.0 tools emerge, such as blogs, wikis, and podcasts, district staff recognized the need to implement a comprehensive program to teach the safe, effective, and ethical use of these digital age technologies to staff, students, and parents.

With that in mind, in 2010, WPS began an Internet Safety Program, beginning with the launch of this Internet Safety Resource page.

The WPS Internet Safety Program is an ongoing project and commitment. As new tools emerge, the district plans to expand the curriculum and trainings accordingly. In the future, the district will provide Internet Safety workshops for teachers, administrators, and parents. Thank you for visiting our page, and please check back, as updates will be added periodically.

GoGuardian

Willingboro uses GoGuardian to block inappropriate content. GoGuardian uses artificial intelligence with its web filtering to identify and block inappropriate sites and report attempts to access those sites to administrators. This program has been enabled on all student devices automatically.

When a student attempts to access an inappropriate website, GoGuardian instantly notifies school administration so that they can review and take action. Accessing inappropriate sites subjects a student to disciplinary action, including placement in the "Penalty Box". Students placed in the penalty box can only access instructional materials and are blocked from all other websites, including Google Search. Placement in the penalty box can last from 30 days to the remainder of the school year. Parents can request for their child to be placed in the penalty box for the entire school year.

If a student attempts to access a webpage or conducts a Google search where a student demonstrates the possibility of suicidal ideation, GoGuardian instantly notifies school and district notification. Administration will review the alert and determine whether to take any action, which could include contacting the parent and/or contacting the Willingboro Township Police Department to conduct a safety check on the student.

Aristotle Borderless Classroom

Teachers have the ability to monitor student technology use through Aristotle Borderless Classroom (ABC). Aristotle provides teachers the ability to share or block websites for individual students or the entire class.

They can only monitor and control student devices during their instructional time and are unable to use the program outside of school hours.
